World’s first IP67 switch with built-in Power over Ethernet support

Hirschmann Automation and Control has added three new IP67 switches of the OCTOPUS series to its product portfolio. These switches which have eight or 16 twisted pair ports (100 BASE TX) or 14 twisted pair and two fiber optic uplink ports (100 BASE FX) can transmit both data and current (max. 12.95 W per remote terminal) via one and the same cable.

Fail safe transmission of protection and obstruction signals

The Lötschberg Base Tunnel (LBT) is a 34.577 km (21.5 mile) long new railway tunnel on the Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon railway cutting through the Alps of Switzerland. The opening ceremony of the tunnel took place June 15, 2007. The safety-related control signals between the high voltage equipment are transmitted free of malfunctions and in real time using Hirschmann's optical field bus technology.

Belden Inc. from St. Louis, USA has combined its daughter companies Belden Europe (Venlo, NL), HEW-Kabel (Wipperfürth), Hirschmann Automation and Control (Neckartenzlingen) and Lumberg Automation (Schalksmühle) into the new business area Belden EMEA. Dr. Wolfgang Babel has been appointed CEO and operations will be centred in the Stuttgart area.
